Java must also be installed on the computer in order for you to run jar file. At the time of writing this article, the latest file is minecraft_server.1.18.jar. 1. You can create a separate folder to house all server files. You can name it anything of your choice, but it is recommended you name it something like "Minecraft server" or "Minecraft Server 1.18". 2. Move your server jar file into the above-created folder. 3. If Java is already installed, make sure to update it to the most recent version. 4. It will generate some files when it is run. 5. One of these files is eula.txt. Open it with Notepad. Save the text file and change the eula=false value to eula=true 6. Double-click the file server jar, to launch the server. 7. This will set up your server and you can join it by typing your public IP address or typing localhost. 8. After you have finished using your server, make sure to hit the stop key to stop it. This will ensure that it does not run in the background when it is closed. 9. Port forwarding is required in order to allow friends to join you server. 10. Browse to the router's settings. 11. You will need to locate port forward settings. It is usually found under advanced settings. You can also find out where port forward settings are for your router. 12. Add a port forward. 13. Give a name to your Service or ID. 14. Change the Protocol to TCP/UDP. 15. Change the ports to 25565. This is an extremely important step. 16. Also, for your internal address, add your address IPV4 to the address. 17. Apply the settings and save them. In case you have trouble with port forwarding then you should look up a tutorial on how you can port forward for your router. 18. Your public IP address and ":25565" suffix can be used by your friends to join your server. So they should be entering something that looks like 123.4.56.78:25565. Remember DO NOT share your public IP address with strangers as that can put your internet security at risk. It should only be shared with your family, friends and trusted people.
