Description: Installing Raspbian on your Raspberry Pi means you'll find Minecraft Pi in the Games section. Minecraft Pi is a bare-bones version of the popular survival game designed to help students learn various programming languages. Sure, it's fun, but it's not the Minecraft game we've come to be familiar with and love. A group of Raspberry Pi users has figured out how you can install Minecraft full-featured on your Raspberry Pi 2, or 3. As with all things Raspberry Pi, there's a lot of editing and tinkering with files and Terminal commands. Make sure you take your time, and read through each step and you should be fine. Be aware that prior to you dive in, there are some things you should know: You'll need your Mojang account login information and your Minecraft username. You will require an active Minecraft license. Adda bank Minecraft.net has a place to purchase one. The guide is only applicable to Minecraft 1.8.9. You are able to continue using the current version of Minecraft 1.8.9. Running Minecraft on a $35-priced computer isn't the most enjoyable experience, but it's definitely playable. Spend an hour putting everything together. I recommend opening this guide on your browser on the Raspberry Pi with an Terminal window next to it. You'll need to download modified log files from Dropbox. I don't want to share the commands here only to have them changed later. The procedure is easy and requires you to copy various Terminal commands from your browser, pasting them into the command line. After pasting each command in then press enter on your keyboard and your Pi will take care of the rest. Tips to make the process as smooth as you can Here are some tips I came up with to make the process go as smoothly as it can: Raspberry Pi 3 users are exempted from Step 1. At present, you are not able to overclock the Pi 3. The Pi 3 is faster than the Pi 2 out of the box. After you've completed Step 4, press the Arrow keys to highlight Advanced options. Next highlight GL Options, select Enable. Step 7 in the guide confused me. It says to click "edit profile" However, you have to click Profile Editor and then double-click on the first listing. Under Version Selection click on the drop-down next to Use version and select a build number. Keep in mind, the default is 1.8.9. This version is currently recommended. We will change it once everything is working. Step 10 requires you to edit "run.sh" without further instructions. Open the Minecraft folder inside your Pi directory, right-click the run.sh file and select Text Editor. To start Minecraft, you have a two options. The guide will show you how to use "./run.sh" in Terminal to start Minecraft. While this is a good option, you must type "cd Minecraft", before entering the command. Another option is to open the Minecraft folder and double-click on the run.sh file. Then, click "Execute." Run the latest version Alright Once you have everything working you can begin playing with the installation. To upgrade to the most recent Minecraft version, you will need to relaunch Minecraft.jar. In a Terminal window, enter the following:"cd" Minecraft Next, enter: java -jar Minecraft.jar Click on Profile Editor and then change the version to 1.9.4 (or whatever the latest version is). Save your changes, then click the Play button to force Minecraft to download the latest version. Next start the Minecraft folder. To avoid any problems if you make a mistake, make backups of the run.sh file. Change the name to "runcopy.sh". Make sure you have a copy of the file. Then, right-click it and select Text Editor. Press Ctrl+F on your keyboard and type 1.8.9 in the text field. There should be two- and only two -instances of Minecraft found. Each of them should be replaced with the latest Minecraft version (this should be in line with the version number you selected in step 3). Save the file, then reboot your Raspberry Pi. Launch Minecraft like you normally would and enjoy.
