Description: Isle of Cumbrae recreated in video game Minecraft 20 April 2021 As part of a project to teach young people about the region's historical significance as part of a project to educate young people about the area's history, the Isle of Cumbrae was recreated in Minecraft. Students from Abertay University, Dundee, came up with Cumbraecraft that is based on the renowned Ayrshire Coast tourist destination. The game features eight lessons targeted at primary school children. Garrison House, Lion Rock, and Cathedral of the Isles are some of the places that are featured on the virtual island. You can also explore Crocodile Rock and the Port in the game. It has been developed to be used in both classroom and home-learning settings. igralni Games students Claire Monaghan, Fergus Coyne and Romain Bourdon worked on the project for three months while attending Abertay's School of Design and Informatics. The restrictions on travel currently in place prevented the trio from visiting the island prior to beginning their work. They were forced to use images as their sole source of information. The game is part a North Ayrshire Council regeneration plan and Historic Environment Scotland. Kasia Smith, the regeneration officer at the council, said that she was thrilled that the game was made available to students. She added: "Cumbrae has such a rich past and it is so important that our children learn about their community's heritage. "Our Millport Conservation Area Restoration Program has been a tremendous achievement in preserving the historical elements of the island. What’s the worst that could happen Cumbraecraft has allowed our to reach out to younger audiences."
