Minecraft resources The Danish government faithfully recreated the entire country in the style of building blocks of the immensely popular title. Danish residents are encouraged to "freely move freely around Denmark" and to "find your own residential space to build and tear down." Over 50 million copies of Minecraft have been sold worldwide. The title is known as a "sandbox game" and lets players be in a virtual space by using building blocks to construct everything from simple structures to entire worlds. Minecraft was launched in 2011 by an independent Swedish developer Markus "Notch" Persson. The Danish government has said that the maps were designed to serve as a tool for education that could be used to suggest "virtual field excursions" to areas that are difficult to access in the country. Flat roofs There is no other goal than survival. Recreating real-world locations is an area of particular interest to many gamers. An intern from the UK's Ordnance Survey team created 86,000 sq. miles (2244,000 sq km) of geographically accurate landscapes last year. Minecraft resources The Danish project is more ambitious however, with towns and buildings replicated with greater detail. The only difference, as the team behind it said, was that all roofs were flat. It also prohibits the use of one of the most common tools - the dynamite.
